Highway 401 Lanes Reopen After Fatal Crash

Eastbound lanes remain closed as investigation continues into wrong-way collision

Tragedy strikes highway, killing four including an infant

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have reopened the westbound lanes of Highway 401 in Whitby, Ontario, following a fatal wrong-way collision that claimed the lives of four people, including an infant. The eastbound lanes remain closed as the investigation continues.

The crash occurred late Monday evening, when a vehicle driving the wrong way on Highway 401 collided with another vehicle. The impact caused both vehicles to catch fire, trapping the occupants inside. Four people, including a young infant, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called in to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. The SIU is an independent body that investigates incidents involving police officers that result in serious injury or death. The SIU has not released any information on the investigation at this time.

The crash has caused significant delays and closures on Highway 401. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes and to check the OPP website for updates on the investigation and the status of the highway.
